I am a mathematician with a deep interest in both theoretical and practical aspects of mathematical modelling, machine learning, artificial intelligence and optimization. In January 2019, I started to work for a newly founded startup with the goal to bring AI to accounting. I am a member of “the other” DMV (German Mathematicians’ Society), of the EMS (European Mathematical Society), the MOS (Mathematical Optimization Society), and SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics).
I received my PhD in mathematics from the FernUniversität in Hagen. My PhD advisor was professor Winfried Hochstättler, who holds the chair of Discrete Mathematics and Optimization. The subject of my thesis is the recognition and coloring of gammoids. Gammoids form a class of matroids that has some nice structural closure properties: the dual as well as every minor of a gammoid is again a gammoid, furthermore the direct sum of gammoids is a gammoid. My MSc-equivalent (Diplom) in mathematics has been awarded by the Institute for Algebra of the School of Mathematics at the Technische Universität Dresden, my advisor there was professor Stefan E. Schmidt.
As a counterbalance to the thought-heavy mathematics, I play, modify and repair stringed instruments. Currently, I regularly play on two left-handed basses with 5 strings, a right-handed bass with 4 strings, both left-handed and right-handed 8-string and 7-string electric guitars, a regular 6-stringed left-handed electric guitar, a right-handed Western guitar and a left-handed 7/8 concert guitar, as well as a leftified tenor banjo.
